Lucas and Luna sit down at a small kitchen table to talk about what happens after the severance check clears. This is not a job-search strategy show or a motivational monologue. Each episode examines a real termination story—from mass layoffs at tech giants to quiet firings at midsize firms—and walks through the legal, financial, and emotional mechanics of the exit. Lucas brings the numbers: COBRA costs, unemployment benefit formulas, severance negotiation leverage points, non-compete enforcement trends. Luna focuses on the human side: how people rebuild their professional identity, when to update LinkedIn, what to say in interviews about being let go. They avoid toxic positivity and corporate euphemisms. Instead, they ask: what does a good severance package actually look like in 2024? How do you decide whether to sign the separation agreement or hold out for a better deal? And when the termination stings most—after years of loyalty—how do you talk to yourself the next morning?#Severa

How Severance Pay Signals Your Ex-Employer's AI Strategy
Aug 21, 20269 minS4
When a company hands you a severance package, it's more than just a check — it's a window into their future plans. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore a fresh angle: what your severance reveals about your former employer's AI strategy. They start with a real-world anchor — a mid-sized software firm that gave a surprising double payout to laid-off engineers whose roles were being automated. From there, they break down how severance formulas shift when companies are reallocating talent toward AI initiatives, why some firms add 'retention bonuses' to severance for workers who stay long enough to train their replacements, and what the size of the package tells you about whether the company sees AI as a cost-cutting tool or a growth engine. They also discuss a telling case where a company's generous severance was actually a signal that it was clearing the decks for a big AI-driven pivot. If you're facing a layoff or just curious about corporate signals, this episode gives you a new lens on severance — one that looks ahead, not back. #SeveranceAI #AIStrategy #SeverancePay #LayoffSignal #AIJobs #SeverancePackage #CorporateSignal #Automation #AIWorkforce #Layoff #Careers #Business #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #TheLayoffPodcast #Podcast #Workplace #FutureOfWork Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Why Severance Pay Varies by Country and What It Signals
Aug 20, 202610 minS4
Ever wonder why severance packages look so different depending on where you work? In this episode, Lucas and Luna dig into the global severance landscape, from statutory minimums in Europe to at-will flexibility in the US, and what that tells you about a company's values and your own leverage. With a specific look at Germany's generous legal framework and the US's negotiation-heavy reality, they explain how to read your offer against local norms, and why a small startup's 'gratuitous' package can be more telling than a big corporation's boilerplate. If you're navigating a layoff or just want to understand the rules of the game, this is your practical guide to severance around the world. #Severance #GlobalCareers #EmploymentLaw #LaborStandards #Germany #UnitedStates #Negotiation #JobLoss #LayoffSurvival #CareerAdvice #EmployeeRights #HumanResources #WorkCulture #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Careers #Podcast #ListenIn Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
What Your Severance Says About Your Former Employer's Training Budget
Aug 19, 20268 minS4
In this episode of The Layoff Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore a surprising signal hidden in your severance package: what it reveals about your former employer's investment in employee training and development. Drawing on a real-world example from a mid-sized tech firm that recently cut its learning and development budget by 40 percent before a round of layoffs, they discuss how severance formulas, notice periods, and outplacement support can hint at whether a company views its workforce as a cost to minimize or an asset to develop. They also share practical tips for what to look for in your own severance offer and how to use that information to negotiate better terms or prepare for your next role. What Your Severance Says About Your Former Company's Innovation Strategy
Aug 18, 202610 minS4
In this episode of The Layoff Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore the subtle clues hidden in a severance package that reveal a company's innovation strategy. They discuss how the structure of severance—whether it's tied to intellectual property clauses, non-compete agreements, or the timing of payouts—can signal whether a firm is betting on disruption or incremental improvement. Using the example of a mid-sized tech company that offered a lump-sum payment with a restrictive non-solicit clause, they decode what that means for the company's R&D priorities. They also examine how 'golden handcuffs' and stock vesting schedules in severance can indicate a startup's trajectory, and what a lack of innovation-related clauses might say about a legacy firm's growth plans. Practical takeaways include questions to ask HR before signing, and red flags that suggest your former employer is pivoting strategy. Tune in for a fresh perspective on severance that goes beyond the paycheck. #SeveranceClues #InnovationStrategy #LayoffPodcast #CareerAdvice #SeverancePackage #IPClauses #NonCompete #GoldenHandcuffs #R&D #StartupCulture #TechLayoffs #JobSearch #SeveranceNegotiation #BusinessStrategy #CorporateSignal #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Careers Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Severance Reveals a Company's Real Estate Footprint
Aug 17, 20267 minS4
In this episode of The Layoff Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore what your severance package can tell you about your employer's real estate strategy. They dissect how office space decisions—subleasing, lease renewals, or sudden space reductions—often precede or follow layoffs, and what a severance offer signals about a company's property portfolio. Using a hypothetical but realistic scenario of a tech firm cutting its headquarters footprint, they break down the financial mechanics: lease obligations, sublease income, and the balance-sheet pressure that drives layoffs. They also discuss practical questions to ask during severance negotiations that could reveal whether your ex-employer is shrinking, consolidating, or quietly planning a move. Tune in for a fresh lens on job loss—one that looks at the buildings, not just the benefits. #SeveranceAnalysis #RealEstateSignals #LayoffPodcast #CorporateStrategy #OfficeSpace #Subleasing #LeaseObligations #JobLossRecovery #CareerAdvice #FinancialPlanning #BusinessInsights #WorkplaceTrends #RemoteWork #CompanyCulture #Careers #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #JobSearch Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
