We’ve featured George O. Smith five times on the podcast, but despite the very similar names, the two writers were not related. George Henry Smith was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, in 1922. I had never heard of him before discovering today’s story, which is one of the things I love about digging through old science fiction magazines. There are always authors waiting to be discovered. Smith began publishing science fiction in the early 1950s and went on to write 15 novels and around 40 short stories during a career that stretched from 1953 to 1985. Published in March 1954 in the fourth issue of Universe Science Fiction, a magazine that lasted for only 10 issues from 1953 to 1955, turn to page 118 for The Watchers by George H.
