In The Movie-Maker Podcast, we dissect a film that we believe showed great promise and had some excellent ideas and elements, but the execution fell short of its potential. We take a deep dive into the chosen high-profile Hollywood films, identifying what we believe is flawed, highlighting what we think is strong, and offering our own perspective on how to improve them. Along the way, we’ll delve into movies not just as an art form, but also as a form of pop culture, entertainment, and commerce.

The Movie Makeover
Batman & Robin: Holy Franchise Killer! Ice puns, rubber nipples, neon Gotham, and one very disappointed Bat-family. In this episode, The Movie Makeover Podcast crew tackles 1997’s Batman & Robin —what went wrong, what still works, and how we’d rebuild this infamous superhero spectacle into the Batman movie it should have been.

Most remakes get it wrong. John Carpenter’s The Thing shows everyone else how it’s done. This episode, we flip the script and look at a remake that got it right. From Kurt Russell and the creeping paranoia to Rob Bottin’s legendary practical effects, The Thing turned a 1950s sci-fi classic into something darker, smarter, and terrifyingly unforgettable. What did Carpenter change—and is there anything we’d change back?
The Movie Makeover
What happens when Pixar takes one of its most beloved characters, removes everything we love about him, and turns him into the star of a surprisingly serious sci-fi movie? You get Lightyear . In this episode of The Movie Makeover Podcast , we go to infinity…and then straight back to the writers’ room. We break down what worked, what didn’t, why Zurg deserves better, and the bizarre question at the center of it all: Who exactly was this movie made for? Then we pitch our own makeover of Lightyear —keeping the space adventure, but adding more fun, heart, and a reason for kids in 1995 to become absolutely obsessed with Buzz Lightyear. This isn’t the Buzz Lightyear you remember. But maybe we can fix that.
The Movie Makeover
Madame Web can see the future. Unfortunately, she didn’t see this movie coming. In this episode, we untangle Sony’s spectacularly weird Spider-Man-adjacent disaster starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney. From baffling dialogue and a villain who sounds dubbed in from another movie to enough Pepsi product placement to cause a sugar coma, Madame Web needs serious help. Can we fix it? Or is this web too tangled to save? Fire up the ambulance. It’s makeover time.
