Intuition vs Fear: How to Know What Your Soul Is Really Telling You | Mystic in Training
Send us Fan Mail How do you know when it’s your intuition speaking? And perhaps more importantly… how do you know when it isn’t? We’re often told to trust our intuition . Follow the nudge. Listen to our guides. Notice the signs. Pay attention to our energy. But the more spiritually sensitive we become, the more information we can potentially be receiving. Our intuition. Our fear. Our conditioning. Our ego. Our nervous system. Other people’s emotions and energy. Our guides. Our desires. And somewhere amongst all of that… the quieter voice of the Soul. So how do we tell the difference? In this episode of Mystic in Training , I’m exploring intuition, energetic sensitivity, spiritual guidance and the discernment required to actually know what we’re listening to. This episode has been created from a longer conversation I had with Gordon Mackay, founder of The Empath Academy and Empaths Are United, where we originally began by talking about what it means to be an empath. But the conversation quickly became about something much bigger. Being sensitive isn't the same as being discerning There can be a tendency within spirituality to treat sensitivity as the goal. To feel more. Receive more. Open more. See more signs. Hear our intuition more clearly. But I don’t necessarily think receiving more information makes us more spiritually intelligent. Because then comes the question: What are you going to do with it? You can feel somebody else’s emotion without needing to carry it. You can receive guidance without automatically obeying it. You can experience fear without assuming it means “don't go there.” And you can feel deeply intuitive about something while still becoming curious about what, exactly, is creating that feeling. That distinction matters. Intuition doesn't always lead towards comfort One of the things I come back to again and again is that my Soul has not always led me towards what feels easiest. Sometimes the most aligned path has frightened me. Sometimes growth has required me to walk towards something that another part of me would much rather avoid. So if our definition of intuition becomes: the thing that feels good, expansive or safe… we can get ourselves into trouble. Fear isn't necessarily a stop sign. Discomfort isn't necessarily misalignment. And ease isn't necessarily confirmation. This is where discernment becomes part of spiritual practice. What belongs to you? For empaths and highly sensitive people, there's another layer. Sometimes what we're experiencing may not even originate with us. We can walk into a room and feel the atmosphere. Spend time with somebody and notice our emotional state change. Sense tension before anybody has said a word. That sensitivity can be an extraordinary form of information. But sensitivity without self-awareness can also become overwhelm. The work isn't necessarily to shut it all out. It's developing enough relationship with yourself that you begin to recognise: This is mine. This isn't mine. This is information. This is something I need to act upon. Those are very different things. Spiritual guidance shouldn't remove your agency The same is true of guides, signs and synchronicities. I love spiritual guidance. I work with it. I teach it. I have built an enormous part of my life around developing a relationship with the unseen. And I don't believe its purpose is to make us less capable of making our own decisions. Quite the opposite. For me, spiritual development is not about continually asking something outside of yourself what you should do next. It is about becoming more deeply able to meet life. To receive information from many places — psychological, emotional, energetic, intuitive and spiritual — and develop the capacity to be in relationship with all of it. Without abandoning yourself in the process. That is where intuition becomes something much richer than simply “trust your gut.” It becomes Spiritual Intelligence. And perhaps that is part of what it means to be a Mystic in Training. Not somebody who has all the answers. But somebody who is learning how to listen. Want to go deeper? This conversation sits right at the heart of the work we are exploring inside AWAKEN — developing your relationship with your intuition, your Soul and your Spiritual Intelligence so that spirituality becomes something you can actually live , rather than simply something you know about. https://melissa-amos.com/awaken And if you’d like to hear the conversation this episode came from, you can watch my full interview with Gordon Mackay here: https://youtu.be/wP15_hoNd9o?is=rtKlceWnbIcCjz8X Gordon is an empath mentor and the creator of The Empath Academy and Empaths Are United.
