  Greg Scheinman asks men for their business plan and they hand it right over. Financial advisor, CFO, marketing guy, KPIs on everything. Then he asks for the plan for their life and the room goes quiet. Greg hosts the Midlife Male podcast and writes the Midlife Male newsletter. He has sat across from more than 250 accomplished men and coached over 100 of them one on one, all circling the same question: what does the second half actually look like when you plan for it. He was 17 when his father died and 22 when he walked out of his first job while everyone told him he’d never work in the industry again. Both felt like crises at the time. He’d now call them the moments that forced him to be self-reliant. Somewhere in his 40s he stopped chasing salary and title and broke his life into six areas instead: family, fitness, finance, food, fashion, fun. It took him three years to work out what success even looked like in each one. That work turned into a book, then a newsletter, then Midlife Male. His argument is that midlife got handed the word crisis for no good reason. He’s 25 years married, moved 1,200 miles to Houston, and thinks 50 to 70 is going to be the best stretch he gets. He didn’t have that in his 20s, his 30s, or most of his 40s.   I Asked My Ironman Coach What I Needed to Hear | Adam Holz

  In 4 days, I'm racing my first Ironman 70.3. I've been training for 9 months and feeling a whole lot of things. But in the meantime, I'm most excited to share a conversation I had with my coach Adam Holz on this week's episode. Adam spent seven years at JPMorgan. At 18 he watched the guys running student government line up offers at Goldman and JPMorgan and decided that was the path, which is a reasonable thing to believe at 18 and a rough thing to still be living at 25. Then, two months before his first Ironman 70.3, he got hit by a car. He got that race back two years later and cried partway through the bike leg because he was in it at all. So, he quit his job, moved to Boulder (which is where we filmed this episode), and now coaches endurance athletes full-time. I recorded this in July and saved it to publish 4 days before my race.
