Lucas and Luna explore the art and science of performance reviews, from forced-distribution rating systems to the psychology of feedback. Each episode dissects a real-world evaluation practice — Netflix's 'keeper test', Goldman Sachs's 360-degree reviews, or Microsoft's stack-ranking legacy — and asks what actually drives employee growth versus mere compliance. Lucas brings the data: studies on recency bias, meta-analyses of goal-setting theory, and the economics of pay-for-performance. Luna tests those findings against lived experience: what a junior analyst hears when a manager says 'room for improvement', how a CEO frames a critical review without crushing morale, or why some feedback sticks while other advice lands as noise. They examine the incentives baked into performance management: Does a five-point scale reveal talent or just conformity? Can peer reviews surface hidden value or do they breed politicking? Should annual reviews survive in the age of continuous feedback? The sho

What Your Review Rating Says About Your Manager's Mood
Aug 20, 202610 minS4
Episode 161 of The Performance Review Show digs into a subtle but powerful force in annual evaluations: your manager's mood. Lucas and Luna explore how a manager's emotional state on review day can shift ratings, word choices, and even promotion decisions — often without anyone noticing. They break down the psychological research on mood congruence, share a real-world example from a financial services firm where review scores dipped after a stressful quarter, and offer practical ways to read the room before your own meeting. If you've ever left a review wondering why the conversation felt off, this episode gives you the language to understand it — and the tactics to steer your review toward a fairer outcome. Tune in for a fresh angle on the annual ritual that shapes your career. #PerformanceReview #ManagerMood #Feedback #CareerAdvice #WorkplacePsychology #MoodCongruence #AnnualReview #EmployeeExperience #Management #HR #Careers #Business #WorkplaceCulture #ReviewSeason #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Podcast #CareerGrowth Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
What Your Review Says About Your Manager's Own Career
Aug 19, 20267 minS4
In this episode of The Performance Review Show, Lucas and Luna explore a rarely discussed angle: what your performance review can reveal about your manager's own career trajectory. Anchored in the story of a mid-level manager at a regional bank who quietly coached her team through a restructuring while angling for a promotion herself, they discuss how review language, timing, and emphasis can signal whether your manager sees you as an asset in their own climb or a potential rival. Lucas breaks down the concept of 'career scaffolding' — how managers who are on the move often invest differently in their reports — and points to specific phrases and patterns that hint at your manager's plans. Luna adds a contrast: how managers who are comfortable where they are tend to give different feedback. They also touch on the dangerous grey zone where a manager's ambition can work against you, and what to do if you suspect you're being boxed in. The episode ends with practical advice on reading between the lines and having honest conversations about both your futures. #PerformanceReview #CareerDevelopment #ManagerAdvice #WorkplaceDynamics #Leadership #FeedbackCulture #PromotionStrategy #CareerGrowth #ManagementInsights #EmployeeExperience #WorkplaceRelationships #ReviewSeason #HRInsights #CareerCoaching #BusinessPodcast #Careers #FexingoBusiness #FexingoPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
What Your Performance Review Says About Your Manager's Feedback Style
Aug 18, 20268 minS4
In episode 159 of The Performance Review Show, Lucas and Luna explore how the style of feedback in your performance review reveals more than the rating itself. They break down the difference between behavior-focused and trait-focused feedback, explain why vague comments like 'needs to be more strategic' signal a manager's discomfort with giving direct feedback, and discuss how companies like Amazon and Google have shaped feedback culture. Listeners learn how to interpret their own review language to understand their manager's coaching philosophy and their own growth signals. This is a practical guide to reading between the lines of your annual evaluation. #PerformanceReview #FeedbackStyles #ManagerCoaching #CareerGrowth #AnnualReview #WorkplaceCommunication #FeedbackCulture #BehavioralFeedback #TraitFeedback #ManagerDevelopment #EmployeeFeedback #ReviewLanguage #PerformanceManagement #CareerAdvice #WorkplacePsychology #Business #Careers #FexingoBusiness Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
On this episode of The Performance Review Show, Lucas and Luna decode the subtle signals in your annual review that point to future growth opportunities—not just your current rating. They explore how managers use 'potential markers' like stretch assignments, specific skill feedback, and mentions of cross-team projects to hint at where you're headed, even when the rating itself is average. Drawing on a real example from a Fortune 500 engineering team, they explain how a 'solid' review with one unexpected line about leadership potential led to a promotion six months later. They also discuss the difference between 'performance' and 'growth' language, why some managers are deliberately vague, and how to read between the lines of your own written comments. If you've ever wondered whether your review is just a summary or a roadmap, this episode gives you the tools to spot the hidden growth signal—and what to do with it. #PerformanceReview #CareerGrowth #PotentialMarkers #ManagerSignals #FeedbackLiteracy #PromotionSignals #CareerAdvice #WorkplaceCommunication #ReviewSignals #DevelopmentLanguage #StretchAssignments #LeadershipPotential #ReviewDecoding #Careers #Business #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Podcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Decoding the Hidden Potential Signal in Your Review
Aug 16, 20268 minS4
In this episode of The Performance Review Show, Lucas and Luna explore a subtle but powerful signal in your annual review: the 'stretch assignment' — a task that's deliberately just beyond your current skill level. They discuss how managers use these assignments to test readiness for promotion, and how to recognize when you're being given one. They also share a case study of a product manager who turned a risky stretch project into a promotion, and offer practical advice on how to respond when you spot this signal. Plus, a candid moment about how listener support keeps this show ad-free. #PerformanceReviews #StretchAssignments #CareerGrowth #PromotionSignal #ManagerFeedback #CareerDevelopment #WorkplaceDynamics #PerformanceManagement #Leadership #TalentDevelopment #Business #Careers #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Podcast #CareerAdvice #ProfessionalDevelopment #ReviewSeason Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo

How do agency tiers work?
Agency tiers have no base fee. You pay per managed client and per talent profile. Agency Standard is $199 per client per month; Agency Pro is $399 per client per month. Both add $39 per talent profile per month. Your own team's user seats are always free.
What is a talent profile?
A talent profile represents one person (founder, executive, or spokesperson) you are booking onto podcasts. It includes their bio, topics, headshots, and outreach history. Team plans include 5 profiles; agency plans are pay-as-you-go.
