The PM Team w/Poni & Mueller
If the Steelers decide to roll with Mason Rudolph instead of Will Howard, could they get anything for Howard in a trade? Gerry Dulac doesn’t think there is a prayer that Howard gets ‘anything’ back in a trade. The guys pointed to a few times in history where we’ve seen mostly unknown QBs fetch something in return. Chris aligned himself with Gerry because he doesn’t think Howard is worth any pick from any team. Can they just hide Howard on the practice squad? Pirates pre/post host Dan Zangrilli joined the show. The guys joked with Dan about some of the calls he got the other day during a rain delay. Dan expects Carmen Mlodzinski to get a few more starts, but he has not performed well after moving back to the rotation. Long term – Dan doesn’t think Mlodzinski will be anything more than a reliever, where he performs his best. Oneil Cruz is back in the lineup tonight. What is the fair expectation for Cruz as the season rolls to a finish? Dan would be surprised if Paul Skenes was down to his final start of the season, which is tomorrow afternoon. Donny Football Debrief – Roger Goodell doubling down and then some when it comes to NFL expansion into international markets.

Do the Steelers believe Drew Allar is the QB of the future? Our buddy Mark Kaboly thinks the Steelers could be feeling that way after seeing Allar play in 1 preseason game. Mike McCarthy said the other day that Allar is a ‘1st round talent,’ even though the Steelers picked him in the 3rd round. Do we believe them this time? Not long ago, the Steelers front office said something similar about Mason Rudolph. Who has the better shot to be the Steelers QB1 next season? Who is on the biggest hot seat with the Steelers? CBS Sports says it’s DK Metcalf after putting together his worst season following a big contract signing. Can we blame it on too many check-downs last season? Let’s also not forget Metcalf missing a few games due to the fan interaction in Detroit. Tuesday Draft – Best QBs from Western PA.

Poni with a hot rumor to get us going – the young QBs will split duty on Friday night against the Jets. He said the expectation is for both Aaron Rodgers and Mason Rudolph to sit the game out with Will Howard and Drew Allar each getting a half of football. What does this mean? The guys pondered if it means Rudolph is safe. Is he? If the Steelers have a QB whisperer as a head coach, could it mean the young QBs are getting their shot to make their mark? Should the Steelers be pushing Rudolph as trade bait? It wouldn’t matter if another team watches Rudolph play 10-15 snaps in a preseason game because it wouldn’t dictate whether or not they trade for him. Man… not the best day for locals at Penn State. Callers weigh-in on keeping or losing Mason Rudolph. McCarthy Minute – How will Kaden Wetjen be used in this offense? We were a little concerned by an opinion we heard yesterday about what he brings to the table. We won’t see Max Iheanachor in the next preseason game either. When could we see the 1st round pick in the starting spot?

Former Steelers DT Chris Hoke joined the show. Hokie reacted to the Keeanu Benton extension and what the Steelers see in his future. Chris described Benton as a ‘playmaker’ which isn’t always the case for guys on the defensive line. What made him out of position at nose tackle? Benton wasn’t a good run defender because he was trying to make too many plays. Hokie talked about the design of the defense in the 2000s and why the linebackers thrived every year. Are we going to see more Benton now that he is paid? Hokie pointed out a way to keep Cam Heyward fresh late in the games. Chris wants to see better pad level from Yahya Black, but he thinks the second-year nose tackle can take a big leap. Is Gabriel Rubio going to make the team after not having much of a chance after the NFL Draft?
