With Folded Hands - Golden Era Radio Sci-Fi
This week on The Shiver Show , we have “With Folded Hands,” a classic 1950 episode of Dimension X. Discover a science-fiction story that is 76 years old and yet feels surprisingly contemporary. Written by science-fiction pioneer, Jack Williamson, and adapted for radio by John Dockill , the story poses a simple question: what happens when robots takes all work away from humans? The Mechanicals (robots) have arrived to serve humanity. They are tireless, efficient, and completely devoted to our welfare. But as Mary and Greg explore, there may be a darker side to all that helpfulness. Instead of freeing humanity, automation has left people increasingly frustrated, constrained and strangely purposeless. And the Mechanicals have strong opinions about how humans should live. Featuring a terrific cast including Alexander Scourby as Mechanical, Peter Capell as Sledge, Philip Bourneuf as Underhill and Byrna Rayburn as Aurora, the production creates a chilling vision of a future. So, are the Mechanicals really here to help us? Tune in and decide for yourself. Thank you for listening! If you like the show, please share us with your friends and family AND give us a review!
