Lucas and Luna dissect the U.S. tax code with surgical precision, focusing on federal and state tax strategies for high-earning professionals, small business owners, and independent contractors. Each episode examines a specific deduction or credit — from Section 199A qualified business income deductions to cost-segregation studies for real estate investors — and walks through real-dollar examples using publicly available IRS forms and case law. Lucas, with his fountain pen and tweed blazer, highlights the fine print in tax regulations while Luna, in her structured slate blazer, cross-references actual taxpayer scenarios. They avoid generic advice, instead comparing strategies like bunching itemized deductions versus taking the standard deduction, or weighing the benefits of a solo 401(k) against a SEP IRA. The show serves listeners who want to minimize their tax liability legally, without relying on gimmicks. You'll leave each episode with a specific, actionable tactic — but also an un

How the Saver's Credit Boosts Retirement Savings in 2026
Aug 18, 20269 minS4
Lucas and Luna break down the Retirement Savings Contributions Credit, commonly known as the Saver's Credit, and how it can put up to $1,000 back in your pocket when you save for retirement in 2026. They walk through the income limits, the credit rate tiers (50%, 20%, 10%), and the often-missed catch: it's a non-refundable credit, so it reduces what you owe but doesn't produce a refund. They also explain why the credit is worth more if you're careful about your adjusted gross income, and how a single dollar of extra income can knock you down a tier. The episode includes a concrete example: a single filer earning $32,000 who contributes $2,000 to a 401(k) and gets a $400 credit. They also discuss the recent changes under the SECURE 2.0 Act, including the new federal matching contribution for low-income savers starting in 2027, which makes planning now even more important. If you're a moderate earner saving for retirement, this episode will show you how to claim a credit you might have overlooked. #SaversCredit #RetirementSavings #TaxCredit #2026TaxSeason #SECURE2Act #RetirementPlanning #TaxStrategy #PersonalFinance #Finance #TaxTips #IRAContributions #401kMatching #LowIncomeSavers #TaxSeason2026 #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #PodcastEpisode159 #LucasAndLuna Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo

The 2026 Estate Tax Exemption Cliff and How to Plan
Aug 16, 20268 minS4
In this episode of The Tax Strategy Podcast, Lucas and Luna break down the 2026 estate tax exemption sunset—a provision set to cut the federal exemption from $13.61 million to roughly $6 million per person, effective January 1, 2026. They explain what the change means for wealthy families, how the portable exemption works between spouses, and why gifting before year-end could be a smart move. Lucas walks through the basics of federal estate taxes, including the 40 percent top rate, and contrasts the federal rules with varying state thresholds. They also touch on common misconceptions, like the myth that only billionaires pay estate taxes, and practical planning strategies, including annual exclusion gifts and irrevocable trusts. If you have assets approaching the exemption threshold or just want to understand the coming tax landscape, this episode offers a clear, jargon-free guide to navigating the 2026 estate tax cliff. #EstateTax #EstatePlanning #TaxPlanning #WealthTransfer #InheritanceTax #GiftTax #TaxCliff #2026Tax #EstateExemption #Trusts #EstateLawyer #FinancialPlanning #TaxStrategy #Finance #WealthManagement #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #TaxTips Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How the Qualified Business Income Deduction Works for Rental Properties
Aug 15, 202610 minS4
If you own rental real estate, you might be leaving thousands on the table. In this episode, Lucas and Luna break down how the QBI deduction — the 20 percent pass-through deduction from Section 199A — applies to rental properties under the 2026 rules. They explain the two key paths: treating your rental as a trade or business versus relying on the safe harbor from the IRS. You'll learn what counts as 'significant services' — think substantial repairs, guest screening, and daily housekeeping — and why triple-net leases often disqualify you. They also discuss how the taxable income thresholds — around $197,000 for single filers and $394,000 for married filing jointly in 2026 — affect your deduction, and what happens when you exceed those limits. With the 2024 proposed regulations now finalized, the strict 250-hour rule for the safe harbor is here. Lucas and Luna give you a practical checklist to see if you qualify, and they run through a concrete example of a short-term rental host who nails the deduction. If you own rental property, this episode is your quick start to cutting your 2026 tax bill. #QBIDeduction #RentalProperties #Section199A #PassThroughDeduction #LandlordTaxes #ShortTermRental #AirbnbTaxes #IRS #TaxPlanning #TaxDeductions #RealEstateInvesting #RentalIncome #SmallBusiness #TaxStrategy #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #TaxTips Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In this episode of The Tax Strategy Podcast, Lucas and Luna break down the home office deduction for 2026. They walk through the two calculation methods—the simplified option at five dollars per square foot and the actual expenses approach—and explain who qualifies under the exclusive and regular use tests. They discuss how the deduction interacts with the 2026 standard deduction, the impact on self-employment tax, and common pitfalls like depreciation recapture. With a focus on a specific example—a freelance graphic designer claiming 200 square feet—they show how the simplified method saves time and money. The hosts also touch on how remote employees usually can't claim the deduction, and why it's crucial to track expenses even if you use the simplified method. A practical episode for anyone who works from home and wants to maximize their tax savings without triggering an audit. #HomeOfficeDeduction #TaxPlanning #SelfEmployed #SmallBusiness #Deductions #Tax2026 #FreelancerTaxes #TaxStrategy #IRS #SimplifiedMethod #ActualExpenses #Finance #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #TaxTips #RemoteWork #DepreciationRecapture #TaxSavings Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
