76- I Was Told There Would Be Walking
Jon did something Becca enjoys, which is usually how perfectly reasonable weekends become questionable decisions. What was sold as a mostly walkable adventure turned into crawling, loose rock, route-finding, a river, a large spider with dependents, and Jon reconsidering the meaning of words like “walking,” “accessible,” and possibly “marriage.” Underneath all the complaints, though, the episode lands on something that translates directly back to ultrarunning: what do you do when you’re uncomfortable but still capable? When does “I don’t want to” actually mean stop? How much responsibility belongs to the group, and how much belongs to the individual? And what happens when you start deciding what everyone else is thinking instead of letting them think it themselves? Becca thinks underground exploring is fun. Jon would like everyone to know he went, he learned something, and there are perfectly good trails above ground.
