Home Isn't a Place. It's Something You Build | Finding Community, Belonging & Purpose After a Big Life Change
Aug 4, 202615 min
What happens after you've had the courage to begin again? In this episode of The Unapologetic Executive , I'm sharing what I'm learning in real time as I settle into a new city and navigate one of the biggest transitions of my life. After leaving Brooklyn, a place that shaped so much of who I am, I've discovered that starting over isn't just about finding a new home. It's about creating one. We're often taught how to build careers, grow our networks, and chase professional success. But no one really teaches us how to build community, cultivate belonging, or create a life that feels like our own after everything changes. In this conversation, I reflect on the difference between networking and genuine connection, the vulnerability of being the "new person" again, and why building a meaningful life takes patience, intention, and grace. If you're navigating a move, a career transition, a new season of life, or simply searching for a place where you truly belong, this episode is for you. In this episode, we'll discuss: Why leaving a familiar place is about more than changing your address The difference between networking and building authentic community What it feels like to become the new person again Why belonging is created, not discovered How to embrace the slow, intentional work of building a life you love A simple mindset shift that can help you create "home" wherever you are Home isn't something you find. It's something you build, one relationship, one routine, and one courageous step at a time. Beginning Again: The Courage to Leave, Rebuild, and Trust What's Next
Jul 24, 202618 min
What if beginning again isn't a setback—but an invitation? After taking a step back from the microphone, I'm back to share where life has taken me, and why this season required me to choose presence over performance. In this deeply personal episode, I open up about leaving my beloved Brooklyn, relocating, rebuilding my life in a new place, traveling for work, growing my network, showing up for family, and navigating the emotional roller coaster that comes with letting go of one chapter while embracing another. This isn't an episode about having all the answers. It's about discovering that beginning again is one of the most courageous things we can do. We'll talk about what it means to grieve a version of yourself, why reinvention is part of every successful woman's journey, and how to find confidence even when everything around you feels unfamiliar. If you've ever wondered whether you're starting over, this episode is your reminder that you're not. You're beginning again, with more wisdom, more resilience, and a deeper understanding of who you are. In this episode: Why leaving Brooklyn felt like leaving a piece of myself. The emotional reality of rebuilding your life and career. Lessons from travel, networking, and creating community in a new place. Why reinvention isn't a detour, it's part of the journey. How to embrace uncertainty without losing yourself. Why beginning again may be the greatest act of leadership you'll ever practice. This isn't a comeback. It's a new era. Welcome back to The Unapologetic Executive .
This week on The Unapologetic Executive, we're talking about the hidden emotional cost of being the person who always "has it together." The meetings get handled. The deadlines get met. The bills get paid. The emails get answered. But behind the polished calendar and professional communication is a level of stress, mental overload, and emotional exhaustion that too many high-achieving women have normalized. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, this episode dives into what high-functioning anxiety really looks like for ambitious women, especially Black professional women who are often rewarded for endurance instead of wellness. We're discussing: • Waking up at 2 a.m. mentally clocked in • Burnout disguised as ambition • Why productivity is not the same thing as peace • Mindfulness practices that actually help • The pressure to constantly perform, produce, and push through • What it means to unburden yourself before your body forces you to Plus, I'm sharing the real-life practices helping me slow the mental spiral lately, guided meditations, breathing exercises, magnesium at night, and writing purely for emotional release. Stop Shrinking: Why These Workplaces Want You Small — and Why You Refuse
Apr 29, 202617 min
In this episode of The Unapologetic Executive , Ritha Pierre, Esq. takes a direct and honest look at what "shrinking" really means in the workplace, and why it's not just a personal habit, but often a response to environments that demand it. Drawing from lived experience, Ritha speaks candidly about navigating spaces where she was silenced, othered, and dismissed, not because she lacked capability, but because she refused to compromise her integrity. This episode goes beyond surface-level leadership advice and addresses the deeper realities many high-performing women, especially Black women, face in professional environments: being labeled difficult for setting boundaries, aggressive for speaking clearly, and unapproachable for taking their roles seriously. More importantly, this conversation reframes the narrative. You are not the problem. This episode is about recognizing the difference between adapting for effectiveness and shrinking for acceptance — and choosing to stand in your power, even when there are consequences. This is leadership, without apology.
