The wearable technology market now encompasses over a billion devices, from the smartwatch on your wrist to the continuous glucose monitor under your skin. Each week, Lucas and Luna sit down at their review studio to dissect the latest releases from Apple, Garmin, Fitbit, Whoop, and emerging players like Oura and Withings, comparing specs, battery life, sensor accuracy, and real-world usability. They don't just unbox gadgets—they interrogate the clinical trials behind new electrocardiogram algorithms, the privacy implications of always-on health monitoring, and the shifting business models of companies that now sell you data dashboards alongside hardware. Lucas brings a journalist's skepticism to claims about stress detection and sleep staging; Luna, an engaged athlete and early adopter, challenges him to see beyond the spec sheet. Together, they explore how these devices are reshaping insurance premiums, employer wellness programs, and even medical diagnosis, while asking hard questio

How Wearable Tech Is Predicting Your Next Injury
Aug 20, 20268 minS4
In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore how wearable tech is moving beyond recovery tracking to predict injuries before they happen. They focus on the concept of 'injury risk scores' generated by advanced algorithms that analyze running form, muscle load, and movement asymmetry. The conversation centers on a 2025 study from the University of Michigan that used smart insoles and wrist-worn sensors to predict overuse injuries in collegiate runners with 82 percent accuracy. Lucas breaks down the key metrics—like ground contact time, vertical oscillation, and training load—and explains how the technology is filtering down to consumer devices. Luna challenges the hype, asking whether these predictions are truly actionable or just anxiety-inducing. They discuss real-world examples from professional sports teams and the ethical questions around alert fatigue. The episode offers a concrete takeaway: what to look for in a wearable if you want injury prediction features, and why the data is more useful when combined with professional guidance. #InjuryPrediction #WearableTech #SportsScience #RunningAnalytics #SmartInsoles #Garmin #Whoop #UniversityOfMichigan #OveruseInjuries #Biomechanics #TrainingLoad #HealthTech #FitnessTrackers #Smartwatches #PreventiveHealth #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Technology Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
On episode 160 of The Wearable Tech Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore a frontier most fitness trackers ignore: your skin microbiome. They unpack the science behind a new wave of wearables that sample sweat and sebum to identify microbial signatures linked to acne, eczema, and even infection risk. The episode centers on a 2025 peer-reviewed study from the University of California San Diego, which found that a wristband sensor could accurately distinguish between healthy skin and early-stage eczema flare-ups 87 percent of the time. Lucas and Luna discuss how the technology works, from microfluidics to DNA sequencing on a chip, and why this could matter beyond skincare. They also examine the regulatory hurdles, the risk of self-diagnosis, and whether consumers are ready for a device that reads their microbiome. With a balanced take on the potential and the pitfalls, this episode offers a concrete example of how wearables are moving from tracking steps to tracking the invisible ecosystem on your skin. #SkinMicrobiome #WearableTech #Smartwatch #HealthTech #Microbiome #Dermatology #Eczema #Acne #SweatSensor #WearableSensor #SkinHealth #Biotech #DigitalHealth #FitnessTracker #Innovation #HealthScience #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In Episode 159 of The Wearable Tech Podcast, Lucas and Luna explore how smartwatches and fitness trackers are being used to monitor seasonal allergy symptoms in real time. They discuss the science behind allergy tracking, from heart rate variability and sleep disturbances to skin temperature changes, and how companies like Apple, Fitbit, Oura, and Whoop are integrating pollen data into their platforms. The episode features a deep dive into a 2025 study from the University of Zurich that used smartwatch data to predict pollen spikes with 85 percent accuracy, and a conversation about how allergies affect sleep and recovery. Lucas and Luna also debate the limitations of consumer wearables in distinguishing allergy symptoms from other conditions, and what the future holds for personalized allergy management. If you suffer from seasonal allergies or simply want to understand how your wearable can do more than count steps, this episode offers actionable insights and a fresh perspective on the intersection of health tech and environmental data. #AllergyTracking #WearableTech #SmartwatchHealth #PollenMonitoring #AppleWatch #Fitbit #OuraRing #Whoop #UniversityOfZurich #HeartRateVariability #SleepTracking #SkinTemperature #SeasonalAllergies #HealthTech #Technology #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #WearablePodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Sleep apnea affects an estimated 936 million people worldwide, yet most cases go undiagnosed. This episode explores how consumer smartwatches — with their built-in blood oxygen sensors and heart rate monitors — are turning into frontline screening tools for the condition. We break down the science behind overnight SpO2 dips, look at how the latest watch algorithms flag potential apnea events, and compare that to a formal sleep study. We also hear how one tech journalist's own watch caught his severe apnea before his doctor did, and why experts say these devices aren't ready to replace clinical diagnosis — but could reduce the millions of undiagnosed cases. Lucas and Luna discuss the current accuracy data, the limitations, and what to do if your watch flags something concerning. If you've ever wondered whether that 'poor sleep' warning is just a gimmick or a genuine health signal, this episode explains exactly what the sensors can and can't tell you. #SleepApnea #Smartwatch #WearableTech #HealthTech #SpO2 #BloodOxygen #SleepTracking #HeartRate #OSA #SleepHealth #TechJournalism #MedicalTech #ConsumerDevices #HealthScreening #TechPodcast #Business #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
How Wearable Tech Is Personalizing Your Daily Sun Protection
Aug 16, 20267 minS4
In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore how wearable tech is moving beyond simple UV alerts to create personalized sun protection plans. They dive into a new wave of devices that combine UV sensors with skin type data, medication interactions, and lifestyle factors to tell you exactly when to reapply sunscreen or stay in the shade. The conversation covers the science behind UV index readings, how some wearables now factor in your skin's melanin index and photosensitivity, and why a one-size-fits-all SPF recommendation is becoming obsolete. They also look at emerging research on how continuous UV exposure tracking could help dermatologists tailor skin cancer prevention strategies. With a skeptical eye on accuracy and battery life, the hosts weigh the practical benefits against the hype, and ask whether your next smartwatch might double as your personal dermatologist. Tune in for a fresh perspective on how technology is changing the way we think about sun safety, one data point at a time. #WearableTech #SunProtection #UVSensors #SkinHealth #Smartwatch #FitnessTracker #PersonalizedHealth #Dermatology #SunSafety #UVIndex #MelaninIndex #Photosensitivity #Sunscreen #HealthTech #Wearables #TechPodcast #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
