The Wisdom Journey
The Model Prayer (Luke 11:1-4)
Share a comment Prayer is supposed to be central to the Christian life, yet many of us feel the quiet discomfort of knowing we talk about prayer more than we actually pray. We start with that tension and then follow Luke 11 as the disciples watch Jesus pray and finally say the one “teach us” request they ever make: “Lord, teach us to pray.” What Jesus gives next is not a rigid script, but a model that trains our hearts. We unpack six characteristics of genuine, God honoring prayer: focusing on the divine audience by coming to God as “Father,” protecting God’s reputation as we pray “hallowed be your name,” and surrendering our personal rule as we ask “Your kingdom come.” From there, we bring prayer down to the dusty streets of everyday life with “Give us this day our daily bread,” learning daily dependence and contentment with what we truly need. We also get painfully practical about relationships and spiritual battles. “Forgive us our sins” becomes a daily pathway to restored fellowship with God, and it immediately challenges us to forgive those who are indebted to us. We close with a sober look at temptation, why our hearts are often the real vulnerability, and what we mean when we pray, “Lead us not into temptation.” If you want a clearer, steadier prayer life rooted in Scripture, this conversation will give you language and direction.
