E 85 | Mobility vs. Flexibility: What's the Difference and Which One Matters?
Episode Summary The bendiest person in your gym is not automatically the most resilient or the most athletic. That should tell you something. In this episode we separate two words the fitness industry treats as the same: mobility and flexibility. Flexibility is passive range - the ability of tissue to lengthen. Mobility is usable range - what you can actively control under load and speed. One is an ingredient. The other is the outcome that actually matters for performance and staying healthy. We cover what the research really says about stretching and injury prevention, why the fear that stretching before training ruins your workout is mostly overblown, why passive range you cannot control is a liability rather than a superpower, and the plot twist most coaches miss: full-range strength training builds flexibility about as well as stretching does, and gives you control on top. Then we hand you a five-step playbook to diagnose and fix mobility complaints with real clients. This is evidence-based strength and conditioning for coaches, personal trainers, and gym owners.
