Why You're Probably Solving the Wrong Problem
Send us Fan Mail Most people who struggle with their health, fitness, movement, or physical performance aren't failing because they aren't trying hard enough. They may simply be trying to solve the wrong problem. In Episode 4 of the THI Human Performance Series, we explore one of the most important principles behind the way we coach at THI: before choosing the solution, we need to understand the problem we're actually trying to solve. Pain, stiffness, fatigue, weakness, poor balance, weight gain, declining confidence, and difficulty performing everyday movements are all things we notice. But what we notice isn't always the complete problem. Sometimes it's information pointing us toward a deeper limitation, missing adaptation, or a demand the body isn't currently prepared to manage well. This episode explores why better coaching starts with better questions, why the same exercise can serve completely different purposes for different people, and why THI focuses less on finding the "best" exercise and more on identifying the adaptation a person actually needs. We also break down one of the foundational ideas behind THI Human Performance: we don't train exercises—we train abilities. Exercises are tools, and the right tool depends on the person, the problem, the demands of their life, and the outcome we're trying to create. Whether your goal is to become stronger, move with greater confidence, improve body composition, reduce limitations, perform at a higher level, or simply remain capable of doing the things you love, progress becomes much more purposeful when you stop chasing random solutions and start solving the right problems.
