August 20, 2026, Memorial of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, Holy Rosary (Luminous Mysteries)
Friends of the Rosary, We honor today Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, Abbot and Doctor of the Church (1090-1153). He was a Cistercian abbot known for deep prayer, love for Jesus and Mary, and his teaching on loving God. The monastic rule, which he perfected at Clairvaux, became the model for 163 monasteries of the Cistercian reform. He was a theologian, poet, orator, and writer. He is one of the last Church Fathers, the apostle of the Crusades, the reconciler of kings, and a counselor of popes. The celebrated Memorare prayer is ascribed to him. In the Gospel today (Matthew 22:1–14), Jesus compares the Kingdom to a wedding feast, inviting us to accept God’s invitation with a changed heart. The invitation is wide and generous, but it must be received seriously. We cannot come to God casually, distracted, while refusing to be changed by grace. We pray to the Lord, with the intercession of St. Bernard, to cleanse our hearts and make them new, removing what is hard and fill us with His Spirit. Ave Maria! Come, Holy Spirit, come! To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy! + Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New York Enhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app: Apple iOS | New!
