Episode #69
Should We Fast on Yom Kippur? Yes — Here’s Why
Hey Sisters — let’s talk about fasting on Yom Kippur. Some teachers say the command to “afflict yourself” only means a heart posture of humility. It means that too, but it also means to fast. In this episode, Amy walks through why: the Hebrew word anah (to afflict or humble yourself), the “not everyone can fast” argument and why it doesn’t hold water, the “Yahweh only wants good for us” argument, and why hard and uncomfortable doesn’t mean a command isn’t from Him. Circumcision on the eighth day is painful too — and we obey it anyway. There are no verses handed to you in this one. Go look them up yourself: search every instance of “afflict” (anah) in scripture, check Psalm 35, and see what it looks like when someone does it to themselves. Yom Kippur is a rehearsal for the day of judgment. Fast, humble yourself before Yahweh, and ask Him what kingdom work you could be doing to help spare people on that day. Yom Kippur is not a feast day. Don’t eat. Torah Sisters Magazine — the 7-book collection on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HBT82XMY Website: https://torahsisters.com
