Investing in emerging markets: EBRD TFP's "Magic Shield" Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyz Investment and Credit Bank’s long standing partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has become a defining example of how emerging market banks can build trust and secure their place in global trade. In this episode, Chynara Alybaeva and CEO Arif Ali reflect on twenty five years of collaboration under the Trade Facilitation Programme, explaining how the EBRD has helped KICB navigate de‑risking pressures, strengthen correspondent banking relationships and complete complex cross border transactions that would otherwise be out of reach. They also share a detailed look at a multi country educational procurement project, illustrating how the TFP provided the coverage needed to support suppliers in Italy, Turkey, China and India. With KICB now stepping into a new role as a confirming bank, the conversation explores what this evolution means for regional trade, how the bank is sharpening its capabilities and why reputation remains central to its mission as Kyrgyzstan’s economy continues to grow.
