34 β Good for Them! Finding Contentment in a Comparison World
What does it actually mean to be content, especially when social media is constantly showing us what everyone else has? This week we're talking about contentment, comparison, and learning to genuinely celebrate the good things happening in other people's lives without letting them make us question our own. We talk about the difference between contentment and settling, why ambition and gratitude can exist at the same time, and the practical things that help us when we find ourselves stuck in a cycle of wanting more. We also get into protecting your energy, practicing gratitude, asking God to change your heart, and remembering that the next purchase, renovation, or vacation probably isn't going to be the thing that finally makes you content. And because this is 27 Good, we also somehow find time for Vacation Amy, airport people-watching, an impressive amount of in-flight television, Michael Jackson, Hilary Duff, and Patty's 14-book summer. At the heart of it all is a simple reminder from Psalm 23: The Lord is our shepherd. We lack nothing. So often the things making us feel discontent aren't needs at all. They're wants. And maybe contentment starts with recognizing just how much good is already right in front of us. Scriptures referenced: Philippians 4:11β13 : Paul on learning to be content in every circumstance Psalm 23:1 : "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing."
