The Trauma I Buried for 40 Years (EP 124)
Sep 10, 202643 min
Tracy Smaldino is the founder of Trauma Rockstars, a keynote speaker, author, podcast host, and someone who spent decades looking functional on the outside while carrying trauma she had never truly faced. When the pandemic forced her to slow down, a simple meditation practice opened the door to memories, survivor’s guilt, and pain she had worked hard to bury. We talk about trauma without comparing or minimizing it, why being busy can sometimes be a way to avoid ourselves, and how healing can affect everything from relationships and self-worth to weight, movement, and the ability to set boundaries. Tracy’s message is clear: you do not have to tell the whole world your story to begin healing, but you do deserve to stop living as if your pain does not matter. === Chapters 00:29 When What You Carry Affects Your Health 00:36 Meet Tracy Smaldino of Trauma Rockstars 01:20 How Meditation Opened the Door to Healing 05:05 Staying Busy to Avoid What Hurts 10:05 What Trauma Rockstars Is All About 12:02 Trauma Is Trauma, No Comparison Needed 16:19 Survivor’s Guilt, Silence, and Facing the Past 20:00 How Trauma Shapes Relationships and Self-Worth 22:35 Music, Numbing Out, and the Need to Belong 30:21 Listening to Your Body and Setting Boundaries === Guest: Tracy Smaldino, Trauma Rock Stars Website: https://traumarockstars.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tracy-smaldino-484b373b1 === Resources / Books / Podcasts / Apps Trauma Rock Stars™ | Trauma Recovery & Healing Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/3j8Zoy3p3Mair20q0AQbW2 Songs That Saved Us, Trauma Rock Stars™ healing playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0mQfkVQtw1eB1eNSsD9ZQy === MUSIC LICENSE CERTIFICATE: Envato Elements Item Item Title: Healthy Eating Item URL: https://elements.envato.com/healthy-eating-VNN4M4P Author Username: CrazyTunes Licensee: Marvin Bee Registered Project Name: Unhealthy Podcast License Date: January 3rd, 2026 Item License Code: XPFS6HD54W
Dr. Hema Murty returns to Uncle Marv’s Unhealthy Podcast for a real conversation about health that goes way beyond the gym and the number on the scale. Dr. Hema brings the perspective of an aerospace engineer, advanced yoga instructor, personal trainer, and nutrition coach to explain why our bodies need to be treated like individual systems, not like cookie-cutter fitness projects. We talk about the overlooked basics that can make a big difference: quality sleep, drinking enough water, managing stress, moving in ways that respect your body, and taking a break from being emotionally married to the scale. The big takeaway is simple: stop trying to punish yourself into being healthy. Start paying attention, start small, and find an approach that actually fits your life. === Chapters 00:45 Dr. Hema Murty Returns 01:11 An Engineer’s Approach to Health and Pain 03:41 Why Health Coaching Cannot Be One-Size-Fits-All 05:25 Sleep: The Most Overlooked Fitness Tool 08:21 Treating the Body Like a System 11:50 Building Awareness Instead of Following “Should” 14:03 Body Fat, Muscle, and Why Trends Matter 19:09 Why You Should Stop Obsessing Over the Scale 25:40 Joint Pain, Medication, and Natural Interventions 30:19 How Gentle Yoga Helped Relieve Sciatica 34:49 When “Push Through It” Is the Wrong Advice 39:04 A Five-Minute Morning Mindset Check-In 41:04 Dr. Hema’s Gentle Fitness Approach at GetShanti.com === Guest: Dr. Hema Murty, Shanti Consulting / Get Shanti Website: https://www.getshanti.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/h-m-phd-8a7191313/ === Resources / Companies / Books / Podcasts TRX Suspension Training: https://www.trxtraining.com/ DEXA Scan Information, RadiologyInfo.org: https://www.radiologyinfo.org/en/info/dexa Get Shanti Foam Rolling Guide: https://www.getshanti.com/foamroller/ 9-7-26-Hema-Murty-Transcript.docx === MUSIC LICENSE CERTIFICATE: Envato Elements Item Item Title: Healthy Eating Item URL: https://elements.envato.com/healthy-eating-VNN4M4P Author Username: CrazyTunes Licensee: Marvin Bee Registered Project Name: Unhealthy Podcast License Date: January 3rd, 2026 Item License Code: XPFS6HD54W
Hydration should be simple, but the marketing has made it feel like plain water is no longer enough. I wanted to look past the flashy labels and find out when electrolyte drinks can actually make sense, when they are probably unnecessary, and what we should be watching for when it comes to sodium, sugar, and ingredients. I share my own honest struggle with moving away from soda, trying flavored-water products, and figuring out how to make healthier choices without pretending I have it all figured out. My takeaway is straightforward: water is still the baseline for most normal days. More electrolytes do not automatically mean better hydration. === Chapters 00:15 Why Hydration Is on My Mind 00:58 My Athletic Background and Sports Drinks 03:07 Cutting Back on Soda and Flavored Water 05:13 The Electrolyte Drink Hype 07:20 What Electrolytes Actually Do 10:35 Why Most of Us Get Plenty of Sodium 12:40 Mio Hydrate: A Low-Dose Option 15:18 LMNT: High Sodium for Heavy Sweat 17:22 Liquid I.V.: The Middle-Ground Choice 20:48 When Water Is Usually Enough 24:43 Simple Hydration Takeaways === Resources / Companies / Books / Podcasts LMNT: https://drinklmnt.com/ Liquid I.V.: https://www.liquid-iv.com/ Mio Hydrate: https://miodrink.com/ Gatorade: https://www.gatorade.com/ Powerade: https://www.powerade.com/ Zephyrhills: https://www.zephyrhillswater.com/ Electrolytes and hydration basics MedlinePlus: Electrolytes Medical Encyclopedia — Clear overview of what electrolytes are and how they affect body function. Dr. Hema Murty has a PhD in aerospace engineering, but the work she is doing today is all about helping people move better, hurt less, and stop treating their bodies like machines that need to be forced into submission. Her path into wellness began with her own knee pain after training for and completing the Toronto Marathon, followed by years of frustrating advice that did not actually solve the problem. We talk about why one-size-fits-all fitness plans often leave people discouraged, the connection between stress and physical pain, and why fitness should support your life instead of becoming another exhausting job. Her biggest message is simple: start where you are, listen to your body, and build consistency around what helps you feel better. === Chapters 00:41 Meet Dr. Hema Murty and her approach to pain, movement, and wellness 01:27 From aerospace engineering to helping people move and feel better 05:45 Running for stress relief, community, and a break from the desk 10:48 Marathon training, knee pain, and the search for real answers 16:30 Treating the body like a system instead of chasing quick fixes 19:53 Yoga therapy, pain relief, and the mind-body connection 26:49 Why recurring injuries pushed Hema to build a different wellness model 32:19 Empathy, consistency, and fitness that actually fits real life 35:48 GetShanti.com and gentle fitness for women over 50 39:25 Treadmills, gym machines, and moving in ways your body can handle 41:08 The five-minute self-awareness practice that can help you begin feeling better === Guest: Dr. Hema Murty, Shanti Fitness Consulting Website: https://www.getshanti.com/ Get your free protein download: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/hema-m-phd-8a7191313/ === Resources / Companies / Books / Podcasts Shanti Fitness Consulting: https://www.getshanti.com/ Toronto Marathon: https://www.torontomarathon.com/ === MUSIC LICENSE CERTIFICATE: Envato Elements Item Item Title: Healthy Eating Item URL: https://elements.envato.com/healthy-eating-VNN4M4P Author Username: CrazyTunes Licensee: Marvin Bee Registered Project Name: Unhealthy Podcast License Date: January 3rd, 2026 Item License Code: XPFS6HD54W
Liz Watt is back for part two, and we go deeper into what happened after her personal health turnaround. Liz is the CEO and co-founder of Be Healthy Utah, an author, speaker, health coach, and someone who has built a meaningful community around natural health, resilience, and the belief that it is never too late to make changes that support a better life. She shares how a dream, a big leap of faith, and a conference that did not go exactly as planned became the beginning of something much bigger. We talk about burnout, building a team, taking care of your health while chasing a purpose, learning to adapt when life shuts things down, and why success sometimes looks like celebrating the 400 people who showed up instead of mourning the 1,100 who did not. Liz’s message is simple but powerful: live today in a way that helps you bless others tomorrow. === Chapters 00:15 Liz Watt Returns for Part Two 02:10 From Personal Healing to Health Coaching 03:41 Gut Health, the Microbiome, and a New Mission 05:43 The Dream That Sparked Be Healthy Utah 09:16 Building a Natural Health Conference From Scratch 11:13 When 400 People Showed Up Instead of 1,500 15:18 Be Healthy Utah Conference and Community Impact 20:29 The THRIVE Framework for Lasting Growth 24:53 Health, Resilience, and Investing in Yourself 28:54 Valuing People, Self-Care, and Perspective 34:37 Health Concerns People Are Desperate to Solve 37:29 Becoming Me and the Emotional Side of Healing === Guest: Liz Watt, Be Healthy Utah Website: https://www.elizabethannwatt.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/liz-watt-22321619a Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lizwattspeaks/ === Shout-outs Dr. Shane Watt, Be Healthy Utah LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-shane-watt-dc-08994318a === Resources / Companies / Books / Podcasts Be Healthy Naturally Podcast: https://www.behealthyutah.com/podcasts/be-healthy-naturally Becoming Me: A Polygamist Girl’s Journey to New Beginnings: https://amzn.to/4zLk3HH Healthy Gut, Healthy Mind, Healthy Life: A Healthy Approach To the Microbiome: https://amzn.to/4iKIO0i Dixie Convention Center: https://www.dixiecenter.com/ === MUSIC LICENSE CERTIFICATE: Envato Elements Item Item Title: Healthy Eating Item URL: https://elements.envato.com/healthy-eating-VNN4M4P Author Username: CrazyTunes Licensee: Marvin Bee Registered Project Name: Unhealthy Podcast License Date: January 3rd, 2026 Item License Code: XPFS6HD54W
Every question we get asked before someone starts their trial.
If you have a concern about deliverability, AI quality, data privacy, or whether this will actually work for your specific situation, it's probably answered below.
What is the difference between Founder Solo and Founder Pro?
Founder Solo gives you 50 AI pitches per month using the credit model (Standard pitches cost 1 credit, Enriched pitches cost 2). Founder Pro raises that to 200 credits per month and adds full Booking Probability access, unlimited Magic Match, Apollo enrichment credits, and data export capabilities. Both plans use the same credit system, so you can stretch your monthly budget further by using Standard-mode drafting.
How do agency tiers work?
Agency tiers have no base fee. You pay per managed client and per talent profile. Agency Standard is $199 per client per month; Agency Pro is $399 per client per month. Both add $39 per talent profile per month. Your own team's user seats are always free.
What is a talent profile?
A talent profile represents one person (founder, executive, or spokesperson) you are booking onto podcasts. It includes their bio, topics, headshots, and outreach history. Team plans include 5 profiles; agency plans are pay-as-you-go.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades apply at the end of the current billing period. Contact support if you need help migrating between plan families.
Do you offer a free trial?
Every paid plan includes a 15-day free trial. Your card is saved at signup but you will not be charged until day 16. Cancel any time from your dashboard.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access until the end of your current billing period. No charges after that. Your data is retained for 30 days in case you reactivate.
Is the 20% annual discount automatic?
Yes. Select Annual on the pricing toggle and the discounted price is applied automatically at checkout. The annual price shown is the full year cost.
What if I have more than 50 profiles or 20 clients?
That is our Enterprise tier. Contact our sales team and we will build a custom plan with volume pricing, a dedicated account manager, and SLA guarantees.
