UPO Live On Air Ep. 76- The Supressor Myth
Aug 19, 202648 min
Suppressors are one of the most misunderstood pieces of hunting equipment in America. Hollywood tells us they make guns silent. Critics argue they make poaching easier. And after a recent federal court ruling brought suppressors right back into the national conversation, it seems like everybody has an opinion about them. So today, we’re leaving the legal debate to the lawyers and asking a different question: What do suppressors actually mean for hunters? We’re separating fact from fiction, talking hearing protection, recoil and practical use in the field, and digging into one of the biggest arguments against them—do suppressors really give poachers an advantage, and does the real-world evidence support that claim? Forget what you’ve seen in the movies. Today, we’re talking about suppressors, hunting culture, and whether it’s time we started looking at them for what they actually are instead of what we’ve been told they are. Ep. 344- Persuing Whitetails In The Last Frontier with Corey Milliff
Aug 17, 20261h 47mS7
There are places where a big whitetail is measured in the 140s or 150s and you’ve got yourself one hell of a deer. Then there are places where bucks can reach a completely different level—and south of the border in Mexico is one of them. This week, we’re welcoming back Corey Millif, owner and operator of The Last Frontier Challenge. Corey joined us way back in Episode 195, and today we’re catching up on what life looks like chasing giant, free-range Mexican whitetails. Corey lives in Texas but operates a ranch down in Mexico, traveling back and forth across the border to hunt some truly incredible country. We get into what makes hunting Mexico so unique, what it takes to consistently find and hunt mature bucks down there, and some of the experiences that come with running a hunting operation on the other side of an international border. But hunting is only part of Corey’s story. He’s also a talented taxidermist, which led us into a side of international hunting that most hunters probably never think about—the challenges of bringing unfinished hides back into the United States. We talk about the regulations surrounding those hides, the concerns over ticks and the diseases they can potentially carry, and why getting your trophy home isn’t always as simple as loading it up and heading north. It’s been a long time since we caught up with Corey, and there’s plenty to talk about—from monster free-range bucks and hunting Mexico to taxidermy, border crossings, and everything that comes with pursuing whitetails in the Last Frontier. UPO Live On Air Ep. 75- The Fight Over America's Duck Factory
Aug 12, 202633 min
Every hunter has heard the phrase, “Protect the habitat, and you’ll protect the wildlife.” But what happens when there’s disagreement over what protecting that habitat actually means? This week, we’re diving into one of the biggest conservation stories in the hunting world. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is reviewing policies surrounding drain tile setbacks for protected wetlands in the Prairie Pothole Region—an area often called North America’s “Duck Factory” because of the incredible number of ducks it produces each year. At first glance, it might sound like just another government policy discussion. But when you dig a little deeper, you’ll find a debate that touches on private property rights, agriculture, conservation easements, Duck Stamp dollars, and the future of some of the most important waterfowl habitat on the continent. In this episode, we’re breaking down what drain tile actually is, why these wetlands matter to hunters across North America, what both landowners and conservation groups are saying, and why it’s important to understand the facts before choosing a side. Whether you’re a duck hunter, a deer hunter, a conservationist, or simply someone who cares about the future of our outdoor heritage, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss. So settle in, turn the volume up, and join us for another episode of the Under Pressure Outdoors Podcast. There’s an old saying that luck favors the prepared—and if you’ve spent enough time hunting, you know just how true that can be. A successful hunt usually starts long before opening morning. It starts with figuring out where you’re going, what you need, what gear you’re bringing, what you need to work on before the season, and ultimately having a plan when it’s finally time to hit the woods. This week on the Under Pressure Outdoors Podcast, we’re sitting down with Weston, the man behind Tier 1 Sportsmen, a platform built around a pretty simple philosophy: Plan. Prepare. Hunt. Tier 1 Sportsmen takes a military-inspired approach to hunt planning, giving hunters tools to build out their missions, organize and track gear, work on training and preparation, and even keep track of those bucket-list animals and hunting goals we’re all chasing. We get into where the idea came from, why they saw a need for something like this in the hunting community, and how better preparation can make you a more effective hunter when the moment finally comes. And if you want to try it for yourself, Tier 1 Sportsmen is giving Under Pressure Outdoors listeners a FREE three-month subscription. Head over to Tier1Sportsmen.com, sign up, and use promo code UPOFANS to take advantage of it. That gives you three months to dig into the platform, start planning some hunts, organize your gear, and see what it can do for you. So whether you’re planning a whitetail hunt close to home or starting to put together that bucket-list adventure you’ve been talking about for years, this conversation is all about being more intentional about the way you prepare for the hunt. UPO Live On Air Ep. 74- Door Knocking: The Lost Art Of Earning Hunting Permission
Aug 5, 202640 min
“There’s nowhere left to hunt.” It’s a phrase you hear all the time. Public land is crowded, hunting leases are expensive, and finding quality private ground can feel nearly impossible. But what if one of the best ways to gain access isn’t found online or through a lease? What if it starts with simply knocking on a door? For generations, hunters built opportunities one conversation at a time. They introduced themselves, earned trust, accepted “no” with respect, and proved they were the kind of people a landowner wanted to have around. Somewhere along the way, that skill became a lost art. Today, we’re talking about door knocking for hunting permission—how to make a great first impression, the mistakes that instantly ruin your chances, and how to build relationships that can lead to hunting opportunities for years to come. Because finding a place to hunt isn’t always about finding more land. Sometimes it’s about becoming the kind of hunter someone is willing to say “yes” to.
