Amy had been traveling through the Caribbean with her parents and younger brother. During the early morning hours, her father reported seeing her asleep on the balcony of the family’s cabin. Less than an hour later, Amy was gone. No confirmed trace of her has ever been found. Over the years, several people have reported seeing women they believed were Amy in Curaçao and other parts of the Caribbean. Although these accounts remain unconfirmed, they have fueled questions about whether Amy fell overboard—or whether she left that ship alive. The next day, John never came to work. When police entered his home in Aberdeen, New South Wales, they discovered a crime scene so disturbing that Katherine would become the first woman in Australian history sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. In Episode 73, we examine Katherine Knight’s violent history, the escalating abuse that preceded John’s murder, the warnings he gave before his death, and the horrifying acts that earned her prison papers one final instruction: never to be released. Listener discretion is strongly advised. Katherine Knight’s violence did not begin with the murder of John Price. For decades, the former abattoir worker terrorized romantic partners through assaults, threats, manipulation, and acts of extreme cruelty. By February 2000, John understood that his life and potentially the lives of his children were in danger. On February 28, he sought an apprehended violence order against Katherine. Before leaving work that day, he told his coworkers that if he did not return the following morning, it would be because Katherine had murdered him. His prediction came true. In this episode, Bria, Zach, and Lyndsay explore Katherine’s troubled upbringing without allowing it to excuse her adult choices, her escalating pattern of violence, John’s efforts to protect his children, the evidence discovered inside his home, and the sentence that made Australian legal history.
