Episode #270
VA11, Ep. 1 From Kalamary to Cartagena, Appraising the Kaleidoscope of Recycled Human Conflicts
We were once again summoned from our break by the magic of water lilies. Meanwhile, the Amazon Rainforest continues to deliver the hidden ruins of a grander past than experts had dared to imagine before, thanks to LIDAR technologies. My invitation, this season, to you, dear friend, is to think of history as a kaleidoscope. We begin our journey by exploring the histories of Kalamary, which eventually became Cartagena de Indias, in order to understand the maneuvers of control and power that the conquering Spanish Empire deployed to control the wealth, both cultural and literal, of what they denominated as the New World.
