Maryland's Perfect Start Meets Tough Test | Virginia Tech Hokie Football News
Maryland’s football team is lighting up the scoreboard with a perfect 2-0 record, scoring 100 points and not turning the ball over once — crushing Hampton 62-0 and dominating UConn 38-14 on the road. Quarterback Malik Washington, a sophomore already with 14 starts, set a school record with 18 straight completions and is throwing for over 500 yards without an interception. Key receiver Naeem Abdul-Rahim Gladding, who transferred from Old Dominion, leads the team in receiving and adds versatility as a punt returner. But the running game’s shaky — their top back’s injured, and Iverson Howard’s been banged up, leaving Maryland vulnerable if Virginia Tech’s pass rush disrupts Washington’s rhythm. This Saturday’s showdown against Virginia Tech — a team that’s also been dominant but hasn’t faced true competition — will be the ultimate test: Can Maryland’s offense stay flawless against a top-tier defense?
