Raadio hommikvõimlemise traditsioon ulatub aastasse 1934, mil võimlemispedagoog Ernst Idla ja tema klaverisaatjast abikaasa Leida Idla juhendasid hommikuti otse-eetris pooletunniseid treeninguid. Nõukogude ajal sai tootmisvõimlemisest lausa kohustus, mille täitmist kontrollisid tervishoiuministeerium ning ametiühingute nõukogu.Sel perioodil kõlas võimlemine raadios koguni kahel korral päevas - hommikvõimlemine kell 6.45 pärast Moskva uudiseid ning virgutusvõimlemine kell 11.05. Aastatel 1946-1988 juhendas kuulajaid võimlemismetoodik Leelo Röömel, klaverisaatjateks olid Dagmar Normet, Viive Ernesaks, Sanda Kanter, Gennadi Podelski jt. Repertuaari kuulusid palad pioneeride marsist ja viini valsist kuni tuntud lorilauludeni.2008. aastast taasalustas Vikerraadio virgutusvõimlemistega. võimlemisi on läbi viinud mitmed treenerid, neist kõige enam Martin Kõrv, kalverisaatjaks legendaarne Viive Ernesaks.
