Lucas and Luna examine the real-world tug-of-war between wages and prices, tracking how cost-of-living shifts affect workers' purchasing power across sectors and geographies. Each episode opens with a fresh data point from the latest CPI or average hourly earnings report, then drills into a specific case: a union contract negotiation in Germany, a fast-food wage mandate in California, or a tech layoff wave in India. Lucas brings the macroeconomic framework—real vs. nominal wages, inflation pass-through, productivity growth—while Luna tests it against micro-level stories from grocery budgets, housing markets, and gig-economy income volatility. They avoid partisan cheerleading; instead, they weigh the evidence on whether wage gains are keeping up with rent increases, whether minimum-wage hikes cost jobs or boost demand, and how different income brackets experience the same inflation numbers differently. The conversation stays grounded in named data sources (BLS, OECD, national statistica

With the Consumer Price Index for camp and nursery school up just 2.1 percent over the year, compared with average hourly earnings up 3.1 percent, they explain why camp inflation has cooled so dramatically. They dig into the pandemic-era rise in camp prices, the shift from day camps to specialty and overnight programs, and how labor supply and insurance costs are keeping fees in check. They also touch on the latest jobs data and what it means for your paycheck. If you're a parent budgeting for next summer, this episode gives you the numbers to negotiate and plan. Why Your Raise Is Finally Beating the Cost of a Dog
Aug 19, 20268 minS4
In this episode of Wages and Prices with Fexingo, Lucas and Luna explore a surprising shift in the cost of owning a dog. While overall inflation has cooled — average hourly earnings are up to $37.60 and the employment cost index for wages rose to 179 — the cost of veterinary care has kept climbing, with pet insurance premiums rising sharply. But a new analysis shows that for many workers, raises have finally outpaced the growth in dog-related expenses, from food to vet bills. Using the latest data, they break down what's driving the divergence, why dog care is becoming more expensive even as other costs moderate, and what it means for your budget. If you've ever wondered whether you can actually afford a dog now, this episode offers concrete numbers and a realistic look at the trade-offs. Tune in for a focused, jargon-free discussion that connects the macro economy to your everyday spending. #DogOwnershipCosts #PetInflation #WageGrowth #VeterinaryCare #PetInsurance #CostOfLiving #Economics #WorkerPay #PurchasingPower #CPI #RealWages #Budgeting #PetOwners #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #WagesAndPrices #EconomicTrends #ConsumerSpending Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
In episode 159 of Wages and Prices, Lucas and Luna break down one of the most stubborn items in the family budget: diapers. Over the past year, diaper prices have risen only 1.8 percent while average hourly earnings are up 4.2 percent, meaning your raise is finally outpacing the cost of keeping a baby dry. But it wasn't always like this — during the pandemic, a shortage of wood pulp and resin sent diaper prices soaring 12 percent in a single year. What changed? The hosts walk through the supply chain, from pulp mills to grocery store shelves, and explain why diaper makers like Procter & Gamble and Kimberly-Clark have shifted production and logistics. They also touch on the rise of store-brand diapers, which now account for nearly a third of the market. By the end, you'll have a clear picture of why this essential item is becoming more affordable — and what it says about the broader inflation picture. #DiaperPrices #CostOfLiving #WagesAndPrices #Inflation #ProcterAndGamble #KimberlyClark #SupplyChain #BabyProducts #Economics #AverageHourlyEarnings #CPI #StoreBrands #PurchasingPower #FexingoBusiness #BusinessPodcast #Economy #ConsumerPrices #WageGrowth Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
Why Your Raise Is Finally Beating the Cost of Health Insurance Premiums
Aug 17, 20269 minS4
In this episode of Wages and Prices, Lucas and Luna dig into a surprising shift: after years of health insurance premiums eating up paychecks, wage growth has finally outpaced the cost of premiums. They break down the latest data on average hourly earnings and the employment cost index, then compare it to the slowdown in premium inflation. They explore what's driving this—from healthcare price trends to the labor market's leverage—and what it means for your take-home pay. If you've ever felt like your raise vanishes the moment your premium is deducted, this episode explains why that's starting to change. Lucas and Luna also touch on the broader economic picture, including the recent CPI report and what it means for workers' purchasing power.
