Ultra Endurance Athlete: If You're Depressed, You Need to Hear This | Wiser Together EP. 67
Jermaine is an endurance athlete who has cycled over 14,000km across Australia, run 21 half marathons in 21 days, and completed 34 marathons in 34 days, all while working a full-time job. He 's partnered with the Black Dog Institute to raise money and awareness for mental health. But what makes Jermaine stand out isn't the distances he covers. It's the honesty he brings to a conversation most men are taught to avoid. In this episode, Jermaine sits down with Parmeet to talk about the turning point that changed his life after losing three friends to suicide, why asking for help is so much harder than giving it, how endurance running became his own form of counselling, and what he tells himself on the days the darkness creeps back in. He also opens up about becoming a father, learning to separate his self-worth from his achievements, and the childhood friend whose memory carries him through every mile. There is a line that comes up in this conversation that stayed with us. I'm a tough man, but one who can also speak about his emotions. Everything Jermaine does flows from that.
