Episode 126: Healing Towers featuring Crab Man

  Oct 4, 20261h 28m

Crab Man, a verified Tubi Connoisseur, is with us for spooky season and they’re curing all our ills with Healing Towers (2025).  It’s a blistering tour de trash in Shuja Paul’s first horror outing and it stars William McNamara and Andrew Keegan.  After stealing evidence and killing a dude, Keegan loses his badge and gets roped into an investigation started by an ambitious blogger that leads both to Healing Towers.  It’s a place where Dr. Healer (McNamara) “cures” people by letting them kill/maim others but convinces them it’s all just a dream.  Yes, the villain is a doctor named Dr. Healer and it doesn’t stop there. This sloppy slasher is full of bad acting, poor choices, and fun politics for the non-normals in the crowd and it’s really won us all over.  Get a chair for this one, because you’ll want to pay attention, tune in!

Episode 125: The Bye Bye Man featuring Lucy Valentine

  Sep 27, 20261h 23m

Lucy Valentine, host of the podcasts Boonta Vista and Savant Garde, is with us and they’re starting off our annual spooktacular with something that we hesitate to mention… it’s The Bye Bye Man (2017).  We hesitate to mention the name of this strangely titled horror film simply because it’s a scenario where you shouldn’t say or think the villain’s name.  If you do, you’ll get real jealous of your girlfriend and maybe catch a fever.  Eventually, it’s death, but don’t tell that to Carrie-Ann Moss or Faye Dunaway, who can’t save this stinker.  It may be poorly made, acted and executed, but it’s got such a silly premise and is so genuinely bizarre there we’re getting on the train that mysteriously, and inexplicably keeps appearing in the film.  It’s a movie that begs discussion, no matter how much the onscreen characters are telling us not to.  You need to hear about this one, so tune in!

Episode 124: Propeller One-Way Night Coach featuring Michael Darling

  Sep 20, 20261h 34m

Video artist Michael Darling is back, and they’ve brought a perverted little boy with them in the form of Propeller One-Way Night Coach (2026).  John Travolta, with his new 2026 accessories of a beard and a beret, is adapting the children’s novella he wrote as a gift for his family one Christmas.  It’s the semi-autobiographical story a boy (Clark Shotwell) taking a long-ass redeye trip that he may have paid for with his mother (Kelly Eviston-Quinnett) while witnessing her drink, smoke and flirt all while meeting a holocaust victim and his future wife played by Travolta’s daughter (Ella Bleu Travolta) and he would love it if his mom could marry a handsome pilot.  Don’t worry, John Travolta is in the film.  As a pilot. And that kid really loves those planes, like, a whole lot. It’s a psychosexual minefield and just the sort of gruel that has us asking for more.  So, engage your safety belts and make sure your seatbacks are in the full, upright position, because this is not a flight to miss.  Tune in! Episode 123: Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace featuring Ethan Sarezky

  Sep 13, 20261h 46m

Ethan Sarezky has returned and they’re taking us back to a longer time ago in a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace (1999).  George Lucas finally decided to tell us how we got here by utilizing the talents of Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Samuel L. Jackson to tell the tale of trade routes, young boys making robots, a questionable romance, an off-screen interim election, racing, slavery and, of course, Jar Jar Binks.  “This was not the Star Wars I was looking for” is the most generous way to put the reaction back then, but time has a way of making things look different. Does this one look different? Well, we’re revisiting it with years of impressions none of us knew we had boiling up inside of us and we’re having a pretty good time with it, despite our own consternation with the film.  It’s certainly a divisive one, but it can be nice to revisit the past, and you can too, just tune in!

Episode 122: The Dark Secret of Harvest Home featuring Angela Carlucci and Toby Goodshank

  Sep 6, 20261h 30m

Artists, siblings, and musicians (check out their band Double Deüce) Toby Goodshank and Angela Carlucci are with us this week to talk about one of their household staples: The Dark Secret of Harvest Home (1978).  This Leo Penn folk-horror miniseries brought chilly, earthy horror to the masses via NBC’s nightly broadcast.  It tells the tale of a city family who moves to an idyllic, pastoral community where they (gasp) discover it has a dark underbelly.  It’s also got Bette Davis fastidiously protecting and maintaining The Ways, a very young Tracy Gold wiping blood on her face and participating in a ritual, a young Rosanna Arquette, and of course, so many uses for corn.  It’s a metaphor, a tithe, takes the place of a corpse, it’s a great way to accost a banished member, etc.  Also, it’s very horny, so there’s that, and even that is sort of corn-adjacent.  We’re out there in the fields on this one, and we think you should join our coven, so tune in!
