We were renamed Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD) in May 1998 and later to simply SPD in July 2014 to better reflect the work that we do of serving people with a wide spectrum of disabilities beyond only physical. To strengthen governance and better position the organisation for future growth, SPD transitioned from a society to a company limited by guarantee (CLG), becoming SPD Ltd. with effect from 1 April 2026.
