Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein was a German-born theoretical physicist renowned for developing the theory of relativity. He made significant contributions to quantum theory and is famous for the mass–energy equivalence formula E equals mc squared. Einstein received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921 for his work on the photoelectric effect. Born in the Kingdom of Württemberg, part of the German Empire, he moved to Switzerland in 1895 and eventually acquired Swiss citizenship. He graduated from the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich in 1900 and worked at the Swiss Patent Office in Bern. In 1905, often considered his annus mirabilis or miracle year, he published four groundbreaking papers, including those on the photoelectric effect, Brownian motion, special relativity, and the equivalence of mass and energy. He proposed the general theory of relativity in 1915 and, the following year, explored its implications for the universe's structure. Einstein also contributed to statistical mechanics and quantum theory, notably developing Bose–Einstein statistics with Satyendra Nath Bose and advancing quantum physics related to radiation. Throughout his career, he sought to unify physical laws through a single theoretical framework, although later attempts proved unsuccessful. Einstein held academic positions in Berlin, directed the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Physics, and became a German citizen again in 1914. In 1933, while visiting the United States, he chose to remain there due to the rise of the Nazi regime and later became an American citizen. He was influential in alerting the U.S. government to the potential of nuclear weapons and contributed to the conceptual foundation of quantum mechanics. Einstein's legacy includes numerous honors and an element named Einsteinium in his honor.
