Naomi Klein

Naomi Klein is a Canadian author, social activist, and filmmaker known for her political analyses and advocacy of ecofeminism and organized labour. She has critically examined issues related to corporate globalization, fascism, and capitalism. Klein first gained international recognition with her book No Logo published in 1999. She further elevated her profile through the documentary film The Take, which she wrote and that was directed by her husband Avi Lewis; the film focuses on Argentine workers' self-managed factories. Her 2007 book The Shock Doctrine offered a critical analysis of the history of neoliberal economics and positioned her as a prominent figure on the global activist stage. The book was adapted into a short companion film by Alfonso and Jonás Cuarón, as well as a feature-length documentary by Michael Winterbottom. In 2014, her book This Changes Everything: Capitalism versus the Climate became a New York Times nonfiction bestseller and received the Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction. Klein was awarded the Sydney Peace Prize in 2016 for her activism related to climate justice. She has appeared on various influential lists including the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute’s Thought Leaders ranking, Prospect magazine’s world thinkers poll, and Maclean’s Power List. In addition to her writing and filmmaking, Klein serves as the UBC Professorship in Climate Justice at the University of British Columbia, where she is also a co-director of the Centre for Climate Justice.
