Peter Francis Weller, born on June 24, 1947, is an American actor and television director with a career spanning over 70 films and television series. Notable acting roles include the titular character in the films RoboCop (1987) and RoboCop 2 (1990), as well as appearances in The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Mighty Aphrodite (1995), The New Age (1994), and Naked Lunch (1991). His portrayal of RoboCop earned him a Saturn Award nomination, and he received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the short film Partners in 1993, which he also acted in. In television, Weller hosted the History Channel series Engineering an Empire from 2005 to 2007. He has also appeared in series such as 24, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, and Longmire for which he contributed as both a director and actor. More recently, he appeared on The Last Ship as Dr. Paul Vellek in 2017. Weller has continued his association with RoboCop by lending his voice for the character in video games Mortal Kombat 11 and RoboCop Rogue City. Apart from his work in film and television, he holds a PhD in Italian Renaissance art history from UCLA, demonstrating his academic pursuits alongside his entertainment career.
