Brian Keane

Brian Keane is an American composer, music producer, and guitarist with a career spanning over 40 years. He has scored more than 700 film and television programs, earning six Emmy Awards and receiving over 70 Emmy nominations, including 18 wins for Best Documentary or Series. Keane has been recognized with nine Peabody Awards and has won the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards Grand Award. He was inducted into the New England Music Hall of Fame in 2021. Keane began his career as a guitarist, touring and recording with various artists, including Larry Coryell. He gained prominence as a composer with his first documentary score in 1980 and quickly became a pioneer in scoring for documentary television during the rise of cable TV. His work includes scoring notable documentaries such as the history of New York, the story of the 1980 Olympic hockey team, and the Battle Over Citizen Kane. Keane also developed innovative approaches to sports programming scoring, earning an Emmy for work with HBO and ESPN. His music has been used in feature films and licensed by major entertainment companies, with compositions performed worldwide. A pivotal moment in his career was the release of his score for the 1987 documentary Süleyman the Magnificent, which launched his reputation as a Grammy-winning world music producer. In this field, he collaborated with artists such as Omar Faruk Tekbilek, helping to revolutionize Middle Eastern music. Keane's production portfolio includes more than 150 records, 37 of which reached the Billboard Top Ten, and he has worked with a diverse array of artists including Linda Ronstadt, Pete Seeger, Taj Mahal, and Van Morrison. His accomplishments also include a Grammy Award for the soundtrack Long Journey Home: The Irish in America.
